Peoples Welfare Front hopeful of getting DMDK on board

It may be recalled that though DMDK allied with the AIADMK in the last elections, both parties soon parted ways. From then on Vijayakanth has ripped into both the Dravidian parties at every opportunity. Also, some days ago, he praised the PWF in an interview to an Englilsh daily which enthused PWC leaders. They promptly acknowledged his words and thanked him.   

With PMK announcing founder S. Ramadoss’s son and Dharmapuri MP Anbumani as the CM candidate isolated it with it not finding any takers for an alliance with it. With the DMK also feeling left out for the present, the PWF which cobbled together an alliance with the MDMK, VCK and the communist parties had been trying to woo Vijayakanth.

The BJP made an attempt when union minister for state for surface transport Pon Radhakrishnan accompanied by state party president Dr.Tamilisai Sounhdararajan met Vijayakanth on alliance related matters.  

Thus, there was a lot of anticipation when it was heard that PWF leaders planned to meet Vijayakanth in the latter’s office on Wednesday. It became a reality when Vijayakanth personally welcomed Vaiko, Tirumavalavan, G.Ramakrishnan and Muthurasan when they arrived at the  DMDK party office at Koyambedu. 

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Vaiko said that Vijayakanth expressed happiness with the PWF’s policies and that the meeting discussed state politics for 70 minutes. Stating that they invited him to bring about a change in TN politics, Vaiko expressed the hope that a good decision would soon result. Stating that the CM candidate would be announced at the right time, he said he had requested TMC president GK Vasan also to join hands with them.
