Polytechnics to work on Saturdays to make up for rain holidays

Besides this, the polytechnics will work one hour extra per day for 28 days from Jan 4 to compensate for the loss of 15 working days due to the recent rains and floods.

In a letter to principals of government, government aided and private polytechnic colleges, DTE said that as per the calendar of events for the academic year 2015-16, the institutions were scheduled to reopen on November 23, but due to the recent floods, institutions in flood-affected districts reopened only on December 14. Hence to compensate for the shortage of 15 working days, these institutions would work on the specified Saturdays and the remaining four days (28 hours of class) would be compensated by working one additional hour per day for 28 days starting from January 4. The last working day March 11, however, remains unchanged.

Unlike the imbroglio faced by engineering college students attached to Anna university where exams were postponed thrice, DTE orders were clear regarding the opening date for polytechnics. What helped them was that polytechnics did not face problems like lack of classes.They reopening date alone was extended due to rain and additional working days advised by DTE ensures that there was no confusion.
