Downpour no hurdle for tipplers to reach TASMAC

Downpour, house inundation, family and friends struggling for food all these things bother little to them. While everyone was fighting hard to get a piecemeal, one group that was having fun without facing even an iota of trouble was the tipplers. They resort to all ways to keep their ‘spirits high’. Sharing the available stuff among ‘glassmates’, taking loans from usurers are some of the most common ways adopted by these habitual drunkards. But, some use the rains as a good bait to cheat the residents and get money for their daily quota of drinks.

Just barge into any of the TASMAC bars in the battered city, you can see a good crowd of customers sitting and consuming alcohol patiently.

“I peeped into bars of one of the outlets near the railway station, one person was collecting the left overs from bottles lying on the tables to have his quota for the day,’’ says Kumar of Nanganallur.

In fact, so far there has not been a single complaint of shortage in supply or overpricing at the TASMAC outlet. The only regret of the customers is that the water sachets are sold at five or ten times more than the regular rate. “Now, the situation is not alright. Most of us skip mixing water in the stuff and consume it raw,” was the reply of a middle-aged man who was exiting from a bar in Palavanthangal.
