Slice of Life: 'Spending time with family is important as we earn for them'

After my graduation, I decided to help my father in his business. My father runs a mobile shop at Burma Bazaar for more than 20 years. Once I started working in my father’s shop, I learnt that there was a lot of competition in the business. Since Burma Bazaar is famous for electronics, there are so many shops cropping up and also many customers throng the place to buy their needs. Working in my father’s shop has helped me greatly, now I have learnt to tackle the pressure that comes with competition. Whenever there is a possibility, we give discounts for our regular customers to keep them with us. By doing those small strategies, our regular costumers help us get more long term customers by referring our shops to their friends and relatives. However, the internet boom has resulted in more customers purchasing online, this has led to our business getting hit drastically. Earlier, we use to earn around Rs 50,000 per month, whereas now we only get Rs 20,000 – Rs 25,000 per month. Hence, in sometime I would like to develop the business by extending many branches. Also, I planning to sell mobile and other accessories through online.  Meanwhile, many business people find it difficult to balance work and personal life but for me that is not a problem. I spend most of my time with the family because we earn only them. If I choose to narrow down by only concentrating on business, then I will miss many things in my life. So, I try my best to balance both my personal and professional life.
