“Irrespective of the season, mosquitoes are on a rampage in our area. Courtesy to overflowing garbage bins and rampant dumping, the winged menace is never-ending. We have lodged several complaints with the official concerned. Occasionally fumigations are carried out by the Corporation.
However, there has been no permanent solution,” said Jayanthi, a resident of Kripashankari Street in West Mambalam. She adds that apart from having netlons on the windows and doors in the house, they must sleep inside mosquito nets.
“Nothing seems to deter or stop them,” she added. For K Ramamurthy and his family hailing from Postal Colony in the area, opening the main door after 6 pm is a big no-no, as they try their best to avoid the onslaught.
“Past 5.30 pm, the door is tightly shut. We pray that we don’t have to open the main door. In addition, we have installed mosquito nets on all the windows. However, a few mosquitoes enter through A/C outlet hole. Any amount of repellents either machines or lotions don’t give us a respite,” he added.
The residents say in jest that mosquitoes and Mambalam have had a long history. After all, a cricket team (Mambalam Mosquitos) has derived its name from the menace that has stalked the locality for several years now. Corporation officials were unavailable for comments.
