DD makes directorial debut with Mukkathe Penne cover
Television anchor-actress DD Neelakandan’s debut directorial, a cover version of the Malayalam song Mukkathe Penne from Prithviraj’s Ennu Ninte Moideen was released by Arya and Sivakarthikeyan on Tuesday. “This is one of my favourite songs and I am a huge fan of Prithviraj.

It was Dr. Mariazeena Johnson, the VC of Sathyabhama University who first told me that I should give it a shot. I wasn’t even an assistant to someone and I had no clue about direction. Then I approached Nikhil Mathew if he could render vocals for the song. I have always been a fan of his vocals and he agreed” says DD.
She adds that this video is the effort of a group of friends. “I didn’t have to explain to anyone what I am doing. I just asked them for things I required to shoot and they gave it to me. Krrish, who has played neat character roles in films has acted in the video and the costume is by Ashwin Thiyagarajan. That’s how things fell in place. It was overwhelming when Satyam Videos told me that they would come forward to release it,” she explains.
The shoot of Mukkathe Penne cover was a rapid one. “We completed the shoot in just six hours. Also, I did this at a time after spending six months moving around with the help of a walker after being diagnosed with an autoimmune condition,” she opens up. Asked if she would take up direction full time in future, she replies, “I would shoot such small videos and cover.”
