“I travel to India only when I have work. Else, I have always been living in the US. Looking at the pandemic now, I don’t think I can travel to India anytime soon,” Pooja starts off. The actress’ latest release Forbidden Love, an anthology series premiered in Zee5. She plays the lead in Anamika directed by the legendary filmmaker Priyadarshan. “Priyan gave me my first break when I hosted the beauty pageant competition back in the 2000s. I felt blessed to collaborate with him for such a unique script. I totally went by his vision to play the character of Anamika. She is a middle-aged Indian woman, who is hit by a monotonous life and wants to explore. A woman needs love, care, and security in a relationship and Anamika talks about it. It is about how trust is important and one should not take a partner for granted,” she opens up. Tell her that Tamil fans are missing their favourite Nirupama from Viswaroopam, Pooja smiles and says, “I know and I have been missing Nirupama too. I hope Kamal sir makes Viswaroopam 3 .”

Pooja says that digital medium in India should be censored. “Family audiences too are now exposed to the digital medium. So, I believe censorship is needed. Moreover, CBFC is helmed by people, who know cinema in and out and I don’t think they will be harsh on filmmakers when it comes to cutting and muting of scenes and dialogues,” she says.

On the work front Pooja says that she has listened to some interesting scripts and a few projects will materialise soon.
