‘Tamils have always accepted different cultures, people’: Director duo AL Abanindran
…says the director duo AL Abanindran and Devanshu, whose web series Tandoori Idly has gone on to strike a chord with youngsters
Chennai
The makers of the web series Tandoori Idly have released all six episodes of the first season in MX Player and have received good response from the viewers. “It is a light-hearted series that discusses the relationship between a Tamil-speaking guy and a girl from the north. We have comically discussed things such as language and cultural differences.
A lot of people from the north have apprehensions when they are sent to Tamil Nadu to work or assigned to a project here. They realise that people here are flexible towards other cultures and languages and make efforts to communicate when they are here.
This web series breaks stereotypes. Tamils have accepted different cultures and peoples always. It was humans who created cultural barriers in some parts,” say Abanindran and Devanshu. Admitting it was a light watch, they said, “It is clichéd but there are things that are unique in each episode that will be a takeaway for the viewers. We have a good cast and crew who delivered what we wanted.” The duo also said that they have been planning to expand the Tandoori Idly franchise in the future. “If all goes well post lockdown, we would be coming up with another couple of seasons,” they concluded.
