Indian thatha and Chitti are our superheroes: Kabilan
Writer Kabilan Vairamuthu talks to us in the middle of his busy schedule. His latest song Oliyum Oliyum in Comali has went on to become a chartbuster after the lyrics stuck the right chord among the young audience.

“For the 90s kids the song is nostalgic of sorts. They were happy that the song took them back to things they were fond of. More than nostalgia, I ensured that I write about things that have changed in the last 20 to 25 years. Kids used to buy ‘Javvumuttai watch’ (Jelly watch) that used to sell in front of their school campuses. Now, everyone wears a smart band watch to track their blood pressure and sugar levels. We lose out on a lot of time on things that are virtual, which is what the song conveys. People asked me about the reference to “Theeyama Vegura Aayavin Dosaiya Bhoomiye Aagatum, which is nothing but global warming. Similarly, I have also registered a line on language imposition saying that today’s kids should be open to learning all languages. However, it is the mother tongue that should be given the top priority in schools,” he told DT Next.
Kabilan is currently the co-writer for Kamal Haasan-Shankar’s magnum opus Indian 2,. Apart from that he has also penned the screenplay and dialogues for Senthil- Sreeja’s web series titled Kalyanam Conditions Apply. “It is a neat comedy that has been receiving positive response from the netizens.” Kabilan is also the screenwriter for Vikram Prabhu’s Asuraguru and Atharvaa’s film with R Kannan. Talking about Indian 2, he said, “Indian 2 is like a mission on progress. Working with Shankar sir has been a learning curve. And to see Kamal sir in Senapathy suit gave me goosebumps it is because Indian Thaatha is a superhero just like Shankar sir’s another creation Chitti.”
On working on Atharvaa’s film Kabilan added, “Kannan is another experienced director with who one can learn quite a few things. It is a breezy romantic film that will be a milestone film in Atharvaa’s career like how Love Today and Kaadhal Mannan were for Vijay and Ajith respectively.” — KR
