National award-winning director R Parthiban’s upcoming film Oththa Seruppu Size 7 will be premiered at the Singapore Asian International Film Festival taking place between August 30 and September 7. This is only the 13th film in the world to feature only one person in the cast. When we contacted the director, he was pleasantly surprised. “I am not aware that the movie will be premiered in a film festival until you told me. Oththa Seruppu is a film that deserves to be premiered in such festivals,” he said.

The actor-director added that there is a misconception among the audience that such films are offbeat and will hardly be a commercially viable venture at the box office. “My debut directorial Pudhiya Paadhai is a classic example. I won the National award for the film and at the same time, it was commercially viable. There is a perception that award-winning films are experimental and will only have 20 to 30 people in the theatre on the day of release. Oththa Seruppu wil prove them wrong. It is a commercial film that has action, love and romance with a strong content,” said Parthiban.

Meanwhile, the festival will have 45 films from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, Singapore, Bangladesh and Iran set to be screened between August 30 and September 7 across various venues in Singapore.
