‘Petromax is not the usual horror-comedy’
The first look poster of Tamannaah’s upcoming film, Petromax, was recently released and it garnered good response on social media. Directed by Rohin Venkatesan of Adhe Kangal fame, the film is touted to be a horror-comedy with all commercial ingredients.

Talking about it to DT Next, the director of the film says, “Petromax is the remake of popular Telugu film, Anando Brahma, and it has come out really well. We have made minimal changes in the script to suit Tamil sensibilities and I am sure it will create an impact.”
Elaborating on it, he says, “Unlike other horror comedies, the characters in the film are meaningful and have a backstory too. That’s one of the reasons why I agreed to work on this project. Moreover, I want to learn the process of remaking a film in other languages. Even my debut film, Adhe Kangal, was remade in both Kannada and Telugu.”
Rohin tells us that he had completed the shoot a month ago and is currently working on the post production. “We are planning to release it in September. Major portions of it were shot in Chennai and Karaikudi.” Ask him about the title and he says, “Since it is a comedy film, we wanted to keep a quirky title that brings the audience to theatres. Petromax is one such and it suits the content of the film, too.” Rohin adds that the film also has popular actors like Yogi Babu, Munishkanth, Kaali Venkat and Sathyan in pivotal roles. On working with Tamannaah, he says, “Tamannaah is extemely professional. She taught us a lot during the shoot and it was a great experience to work with her.” Rohin also says that he is currently working on another script which will be way different from his previous films. “My next will be a love story. An official announcement will be made once we finalise on the cast and crew,” he concludes.
