In one of his recent online interviews, Vadivelu has called director Shankar, a ‘graphic director’ and said that he backed out of Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi, as the director of the film, Chimbu Deven was incompetent to shoot the film. He also added that the film’s prequel, Imsai Arasan 23am Pulikesi was a hit only because of the actor’s involvement and not Chimbu Deven’s script. Following this, many filmmakers in the industry, have condemned Vadivelu and lashed out at the comedian for disrespecting the creators.

Naveen of Moodar Koodam fame was one of the first to condemn the actor on his social media page. He wrote, “I have admired your acting talent. You are a genius, but only as an actor. You can make a good comedy track but can’t write a script. Don’t be so arrogant. If you are the reason behind the success of Imsai Arasan then why your other big-budget films as hero have turned out badly.” (sic) Venkat Prabhu, too, lent his support to his former AD, Chimbu Deven and said, “A director is the captain of the ship. If a film turns out to be a success, we celebrate as the success belongs to everyone. But, if it fails, many say ‘it’s the director’s fault.’ It is disheartening to see an actor pass such comments against the creators who gave him blockbusters. I am closely working with Chimbu Deven and I know a lot about him. More than a filmmaker, he is a good human being. No need to speak about Shankar sir, too. We are all here to make each other happy. Let’s not hate each other. Spread love.” Even Samuthirakani and Suseenthiran have criticised Vadivelu for his insensitive comments. However, Vadivelu is yet to react on this issue.
