Sathyaraj and co set the ball rolling
We reach the sets of Theerpugal Virkapadum on a Saturday afternoon on a college campus in the city and the producer of the film, Sajeev Meera Sahib of Honeybee Creations greets us and tells us what the unit has planned for the day.

He introduces us to the director of the film Dheran and says, “We have the entire unit present today on the sets and we will be shooting important scenes.
” The shoot is taking place inside a classroom, where the students are all ears to the orientation. Dheran approves the shot and Sathyaraj is the first to walk out of the class, followed by Charlie, Renuka and Smruthi. “Sathyaraj sir is playing a gynaecologist in the film and Smruthi plays his daughter, who is a medical student. We shot another college portion last week in Thiruvallur and we have been shooting non-stop till then. This is the last day of this schedule until we resume another portion next week at a different location,” says Dheran.
Renuka, who of late has been playing mother to heroes, is playing a doctor in the film. “This team has been amazing to shoot with. I agreed to do this film because I am not playing the mother of lead characters,” she quips. “The film has shaped up quite well so far. Directors, who are newbies have been coming up with interesting stories, which I couldn’t refuse. When Dheran narrated the story to me, I was impressed and told myself that the message conveyed in the film should reach the people,” adds the actress. We saw a stethoscope in her hand and asked if she plays a doctor too. She hides it from us and says, “Yes. I am also playing Sathyaraj sir’s classmate and we go on to become doctors in the same college/university.” Sathyaraj smiles and says that he wants to talk about the film close to the release and not give away the suspense. But Smruthi has one interesting thing to share about an incident that happened on the sets and smiles, “I first tried my hand at riding a bike on the sets of this film. Guess what? Sathyaraj sir was my pillion rider. I wasn’t focusing on the camera or the frame or my dialogues. The only thing that I kept telling myself was to ensure that he is safe. Fortunately, I dropped him off smoothly.” The crew had a good laugh and Dheran says ‘shift’ as the unit moves to another spot on the campus. —KR
