Amitabh to play a transgender in the Hindi remake of Kanchana
Recently, we reported that Raghava Lawrence was all set to direct the Hindi remake of Kanchana, featuring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in the lead.
Chennai
On Sunday, Lawrence took to social media to announce that the first schedule of the film has already begun and even shared a picture of himself with Akshay from the sets.
He wrote, “Hi dear friends and fans! Shooting of Hindi remake of ‘Kanchana’, starring the great Akshay Kumar Sir, has begun. Need all your blessings.”(sic).
Now, speculations are rife that Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has agreed to be a part of this project and he might reprise Sarathkumar’s role from the original. A source in the know of things said, “Lawrence met Amitabh a couple of months ago and narrated him the script. He was impressed with the transgender role, which Sarathkumar played in the original and even asked Lawrence to write a new version of it. An official announcement will be made regarding the cast and crew in the coming days.”
When we tried reaching Lawrence to confirm the news, he wasn’t available for comment. However, the actor-director’s spokesperson has confirmed to DT Next that Amitabh Bachchan has officially signed up for the project and will join the sets in the second schedule. “The team will shoot for the portions of Akshay and Kiara Advani in the film’s first schedule,” he said. Kanchana revolves around a transgender woman who wants to take revenge on an MLA who murdered her and her family in a land-grab. Apart from this, Raghava Lawrence is also working on the pre-production works of his next fantasy film, Kaala Bairava.
