Iconic luxury heritage Taj property revamped, reopens
Taj Connemara, South India’s oldest hotel, reopened on Tuesday after undergoing year-long renovation and redesign. Dating to 1854, the 120-year old hotel is a relic of the colonial era and is named after Lord Connemara, the then Governor.

The hotel’s refreshed design has architectural influences of classic colonial, art deco and distinctive elements from the celebrated architect, Geoffrey Bawa’s ‘Tropical Modernism’ style. Ahmar Siddiqui, GM of the property, said, “Chennai’s Grande Dame is the result of the efforts of a team including master craftsmen and artisans who have worked on restoring the city’s landmark to create a world-class hotel.”
