FICCI, Amazon aid textile and leather exporters in Chennai

Through these events, FICCI and Amazon aim to educate exporters and manufacturers on B2C exports via the e-commerce route and enable them to sell across 11 international marketplaces through Amazon Global Selling.

FICCI, in partnership with Amazon organised a workshop on going global through E-commerce Marketplace for B2C Textile and Leather Product Manufacturers, Exporters, Retailers and Online sellers. The workshop was held in the city. 

Abhijit Kamra, Head - Global Selling, Amazon India, said “We launched the initiative in India in 2015 with the aim of helping Indian businesses take their “Made in India” products to millions of active customers across the globe through our marketplaces. Amazon Global Selling has witnessed a high interest from textile and leather manufacturers and exporters across the country. It currently has over 32000 sellers selling over 90 million products. Considering that there are thousands of such exporters in Chennai, we see a huge potential for these small and medium scale enterprises to scale up their export business through B2C e-commerce channel across product categories.”

Sanjay Bhatia, President, FICCI-CMSME said, “The number of digital buyers worldwide is expected to grow to 2.07 billion in 2019 from 1.3 billion in 2014. E-commerce shopping is a thriving market, with people increasingly choosing this option to order products and services at their convenience. Global e-commerce transaction in the year 2016 was $ 1.9 trillion accounting for 8.7 per cent of the total retail spending worldwide. This is expected to grow to above $ 4 trillion by the year 2020, making up to nearly 15 per cent of the total retail spending.”
