Hatsun Agro Product Ltd (HAP) has a network of around 9500 Hatsun Milk Banks currently. HAP is in the forefront of using renewable energy in the dairy sector in India. HAP already has commissioned wind power plants with 24 MW capacity in Tuticorin district, along with a solar plant with 550 KW capacity that was commissioned during March 2017 in Dindigul district, with a combined investment of Rs 180 crore.

At Hatsun Milk Banks, milk supplied by every farmer is tested, weighed and complete details are shared to the farmer over an SMS daily to ensure 100% transparency. HAP’s main objective is to fully power this infrastructure with the help of renewable energy.

Towards achieving this goal, HAP has engaged with Phocos India, a manufacturer of solar-powered panels, charge controllers and components for 1800 solar panels worth Rs 2crores to be installed at existing and upcoming Hatsun Milk Banks. With the installation of these panels by the month end, 100% of the basic procurement infrastructure (testing, weighing and all lamps) at HAP will be functioning with the help of renewable energy. Also, Hatsun milk banks will become less dependent on grid power supply.

Phocos India, is the Indian arm of Phocos AG Germany, a world-leading manufacturer ofsolar-powered panels, charge controllers and components. The entire solar kit is designed inGermany by Phocos AG and manufactured at Phocos India’s production facility in Pondicherry andChennai.

RG Chandramogan, Chairman and MD, HAP, said “The major gain for HAP with uninterrupted power supply is certainty of 100%quality assurance at the procurement stage itself, especially when expanding to new territory. HAP will continue to implement new technologies in other processes as well to increase renewable energy usage.”
