Catering major forays into masala retail
Arusuvai Arasu Fresh Foods, an FMCG offshoot of a 60-year-old company that has been known for its catering services across the state, recently kicked off its retail operations by launching 12 new products in the powdered masala/condiments segment.

The parent company, which claims to have catered to more than two lakh wedding functions across the country, is eyeing retail as its next big move.
S Kamesh, the MD of the company, who described branching out as the way forward for the traditional brand tells us, “We found that there was an opportunity in this segment as there were no players concentrating purely on the vegetarian masala powder market. Our annual target for this fiscal is 30 to 40 tonnes. Annually, Tamil Nadu consumes 5,000 to 6,000 tonnes of masalas every month.”
He adds, “We plan on a pan India expansion in three years from now. We have already tied up with players like Bigbasket and Grofers.”
