As a part of this contract, Gamesa will supply, erect and commission 25 units of its G114 – 2.0MW wind turbines. The turbines are designed to yield more power at lower wind speeds making it particularly suited to India’s wind conditions. This order forms part of the 278 MW consolidated orders announced for India.
IL&FS has focussed on the commercialisation and development of infrastructure projects and creation of value added financial services. Ramesh Kymal, Chairman and Managing Director, Gamesa India said, “We are glad to announce our first project with IL&FS, one of India’s leading infrastructure development and finance companies. Not only does this order boost our confidence significantly but also encourages us to continuously offer value for our growing elite client base through innovative tailor made solutions. This order takes us a step closer in our collective goal of addressing the growing energy needs in India and is one that we greatly look forward to completing.”

The new capacity is expected to increase to more than 30,000 MW from 2016 to 2025, driven by huge demand for electricity, as per sector consultancy MAKE’S estimates. The new orders obtained by Gamesa in India reinforce its commercial positioning: as per MAKE, the company ended 2015 (CY) as the leading OEM in India with a market share of 34 per cent, compared to 25 per cent in 2014 (CY), when it also was the market leader. Gamesa’s presence in India - as technology provider and wind farm developer is from 2009. To date, Gamesa has installed over to 3,500 MW and services close to 2,800 MW, under O&M agreements.
