MADURAI: To prevent crime and promote security in public places, Kanniyakumari district police have introduced camera-equipped bike patrolling. According to Kanniyakumari superintendent of police D Hari Kiran Prasad, detachable cameras have been fitted on ten patrol bikes. Gradually the facility would be expanded to all 33 police stations across the district. It costs about Rs 8,000 to enable this facility in a vehicle, the SP said on Thursday. The facility would certainly be useful in crime prevention activities and also help regulate the crowd, especially during this Deepavali. It would also help increase police visibility in public. Such bike patrolling would be executed in highly crowded areas including bus stands, railway stations and markets in parts of Vadasery, Nesamony Nagar, Kottar and Kanniyakumari. The district police are taking steps to introduce ‘Mobile Help Desk’ at key locations, he said.
