MADURAI: The Madurai bench of Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the CB-CID to conduct a detailed probe into a case under Pocso Act and another case of suicide. Sakunthaladevi, of Kallal, Sivaganga district, filed a petition in the HC seeking a CB-CID probe into the suicide of her husband Nachiyappan, in a detailed and an expeditious manner. Nachiyappan was an accused in the Pocso case registered earlier by the Devakottai All Women Police in 2021. The police demanded Rs 50 lakh from Nachiyappan to remove his name from the case and close the complaint. But, even after paying the money, the police registered a case against Nachiyappan under the Pocso Act and the SC/ST Act. Frustrated over this, Nachiyappan committed suicide at Keeranur in Pudukkottai district and the Keeranur police registered a case. After hearing the arguments, Justice TV Thamilselvi ordered the CB-CID to conduct a detailed inquiry by clubbing these cases and submit a report within three months. Court suo motu impleaded the DIG, Madurai as 5th respondent.
