CHENNAI: In a move to enhance efficient management of the functioning of the existing model schools, the state government has decided to develop a centralised online monitoring system to bring transparency in educational activities. Accordingly, a high-tech mobile app will be launched, which would be accessed by all stakeholders from anywhere anytime.

As part of improving educationally backward blocks across the state, the government established model schools in 10 districts. These residential schools will provide opportunities to children who have the willingness and ability to aspire and join institutes of eminence in the country.

The model schools offer quality academic inputs from both serving teachers and from external experts such as professors from eminent institutions like IITs and IISc.

A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that to streamline the process of model schools, to ease coordination among multiple stakeholders, save time and bring transparency to the system, a mobile app is envisaged for the model schools.

“This mobile app will be accessed by all stakeholders from anywhere at any time,” he said adding “it is envisioned that the proposed solution would be highly effective due to the inherent cut down in reporting time and better quality of reports with images and videography and GPS location information.”

Stating that to maintain a centralised database consisting of all information and integrate all the functional areas so that all relevant information is always available with the latest and updated information online, he said the online system will also ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency of the information.

The official said that the mobile app will also improve the quality of reports besides improvement in the quality of scheme implementation. “Through the new system, real-time monitoring of various activities, including academic and co-scholastic, with captured image, video and pictures will be done,” he added.

According to the official, the online system will also have a digital database of all the activities of the model schools and management information system, generation dashboard and graphical representation- pie chart, histogram and bar charts of various reports.

“The teachers concerned will have features to create assessments, evaluate and report the required information,” he said adding “an option called students’ interests will have the details of their every activity.”
