CHENNAI: The School Education Department in a meeting held with the district chief educational officers (CEO) directed the officials to check the quality of teaching in class and if students of government and aided schools are able to grasp the subjects taught by teachers.

Additionally, the CEOs were told to conduct monthly meetings with school principals and discuss ideas for increasing the quality of education. Meanwhile, as per the requirement, the department has also urged school principals to conduct special classes for students of 10 and 12, to increase the pass percentage.

Subsequently, officials have also been told to check if the school headmaster is taking the classes allotted for them.

Speaking to DT Next about conducting special classes for students, a government school teacher said, “We have been conducting special classes from June to fill the learning loss sustained by students due to lockdown.”

In the morning, special classes are held between 8:30 am and 9:30 am while in the evening, the classes are held between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

“As per the instruction from the school principal, we are taking special classes for one subject per day. Through this practice we are also able to see results. However, there are speculations that classes will be held on Saturday in the view of improving education quality. But, if schools are conducted on Saturday, students for sure will be over stressed,” added the teacher.isation has links with global terrorist organisations and is involved in many terror cases.
