CHENNAI: The Cybercrime wing of the police department on Thursday registered cases against 36 YouTube channels for posting seditious content, comments, and videos with intent against a particular person, and spreading rumours about the girl's death.

A case has been registered against them under Information Technology Act, 2000. In this regard, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has sent summons to more than 6 YouTube channels and are investigating.

Earlier, following a nod to reopen the Kaniyamoor school in Chinna Salem, which was the hotbed of violence after a 17-year-old student died under suspicious circumstances, parents and students demanded fresh certificates.

On July 13, a Class 12 student, was found dead at the school premises late at night. The alleged apathy of the school management irated protestors, who took to violence on July 17. Protestors involved in arson, torched buildings and vans.
