Man booked for murder after row over dog bark awarded life imprisonment

Madurai: Additional Sessions Court in Ramanathapuram on Tuesday sentenced a man accused of beating a person to death to undergo life imprisonment. According to the prosecution, V Pichai (44) of Pamban, Ramanathapuram district was found guilty of beating Sandhya Reni (29) to death.

The incident occurred on January 11 in 2013 when a pet dog of Sandhya Reni barked at Pichai, who was walking along with his friend S Dani of Pamban. Irked over the dog’s behavior, both Dani and Pichai trespassed into the house of Reni attacked her with wooden logs.

The injured Reni died on January 16, 2013.

Based on a complaint from A, Chandrabose, the victim’s relative, Pamban police filed a case and after the victim’s death, the case was altered to 449 and 302 of IPC.

The key accused Dani died in a road accident in 2017.

Finally, the court pronounced Pichai guilty of the crime and sentenced him to undergo life imprisonment. Besides, a fine of Rs 8,000 was imposed on the accused, sources said.
