“Of late, state government has laid several restrictions on temple festivals such as usage of speakers after 10 pm, but local temple festivals are celebrated throughout the night. Government should also waiver the amount to be paid to Police department for giving protection to the festivals,” said Vaiko, in a statement.

He also said that several thousands in the state are about to celebrate temple festivals in their villages in the coming months and majority of the temple festivals are held peacefully. People living in various parts of the world will return to their villages during the temple festivals.

As part of the festival, there are many events conducted such as debates, musical events, religious discourage and ‘Adal Padal’ programme. These events are conducted throughout the night and conclude at 5 am in the morning, but police restrict the festival to 10 pm due to which people could not celebrate the festivals in their usual fervour.

Vaiko further urged the state government to fight legal battle if court imposes any restriction on the temple festivals.
