9 additional judges at MHC made permanent

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of nine additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges of the High Court.

The Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde in a meeting held on February 12, approved the appointment of Justices PT Asha, M Nirmal Kumar, Subramonium Prasad, N Anand Venkatesh, GK Ilanthiraiyan, Krishnan Ramasamy, C Saravanan, B Pugalendhi and Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy


Seven of these judges, Justices PT Asha, M Nirmal Kumar, Subramonium Prasad, N Anand Venkatesh, GK Ilanthiraiyan, Krishnan Ramaswamy and C Saravanan were appointed as additional judges in June 2018.


Justice Pugalendhi was appointed as an additional judge for a two-year term in November 2018. Justice Ramamoorthy, a former partner at Dua Associates, was appointed in February 2019.


The collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde, in a meeting on Wednesday also approved the proposal for appointment of Justice Rahul Chaturvedi, the Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court, as the Permanent Judge.


Besides CJI Bobde, Justices N V Ramana, Arun Mishra, RF Nariman and R Banumathi are part of the new five-judge Collegium.
