Jallikattu from Jan 16-31 in Karur, Madurai, Tiruchy

The State government issued a Government Order (GO) permitting district administrations of Karur, Madurai and Tiruchy to conduct Jallikattu between January 16 and 31.

According to the GO, Jallikattu can be conducted in Rachandur Thirumalai village in Karur, Alanganallur and Palamedu in Madurai and Sooriyur, Avarangadu, Poothamettupatti and Karungulam villages in Tiruchy. 

After the Jallikattu protest in 2017, Cruelty to Animals Act was amended to allow Jallikattu in the state.  Madurai, which is renowned for Jallikattu, has the festival organised in Avaniyapuram, Alanganallur and Palamedu. Avaniyapuram Jallikattu would be conducted on January 15, Alanganallur on January 16 and Palamedu on January 17. After completing the first phase of Jallikattu in January, the second phase would be held in other districts of the State such as Sivaganga, Pudukkottai and other villages in Madurai and Tiruchy.
