Justice S Manikumar elevated to Kerala CJ

Justice S Manikumar, the seniormost judge at the Madras High Court, has been elevated as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court based on a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium.

Justice Manikumar would fill up the vacancy that had arisen consequent to the elevation of Kerala High Court Chief Justice Hrishikesh Roy to the Supreme Court.


An order from the Supreme Court issued by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice S A Bode and Justice N V Ramana, said, “Justice Manikumar is the seniormost judge from the Madras High Court and has been functioning there since his elevation. Having regard to all relevant factors, the collegium is of the considered opinion that Justice Manikumar is suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court”.


Justice Manikumar who enrolled as an advocate on November 23, 1983, practised for nearly 22 years in the Madras High Court, being appointed as Additional Judge of the Madras High Court on July 31, 2006, and as permanent Judge on November 9, 2009.
