Jayakumar along with State Social Welfare Minister V Saroja and Minister for Rural Industries P Benjamin paid respect to renowned Dalit activist Rettamalai Srinivisan, on his 160th birth anniversary at his memorial inside Gandhi memorial in Guindy.
After paying respect to Rettamalai Srinivasan, Jayakumar said, “When Mugilan disappeared opposition parties instantly blamed the ruling party and there were various accusations against the state government but he resurfaced on Saturday. This is a tight slap on the opposition parties.”
After 140 days of disappearance, Mugilan was found in Tirupathi Railway station on Saturday night and he was brought to Tamil Nadu immediately. When Jayakumar was asked about the reason for Mugilan’s disappearance, the Minister replied that only now he was taken under custody and any information on him will be known after the investigation.
Family relieved
Meanwhile, his family is relieved at Mugilan resurfacing. Addressing the media, Poonkodi, wife of Mugilan, said that initially the family was worried at Mugilan disappearing and there were various doubts in their minds. “We know that threat is common in public life but his disappearance for long worried us but now the entire family is relieved after seeing him. We are eager to meet him,” said Poonkodi.
NTK demands govt tohandover Mugilan to family
Meanwhile, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman on Sunday demanded the state government to handover Mugilan to his family. “Mugilan fought against Sterlite and participated in all the protests against Sterlite. On the day he released video evidence against police in Sterlite killings, Mugilan disappeared and now a video is circulating which shows that Mugilan is in the hands of police. He should be recovered, treated and should be handed over to the family,” said Seeman.
The same demands were put forth in social media too as activists and social media users demanded government to handover him to his family. But lyricist Thamarai placed scathing allegations against Mugilan claiming that he has cheated a woman and so he disappeared.
