Star tortoise rescued in Tirupur

A star tortoise was rescued in Tirupur on Tuesday. A textile firm owner, Sivanandam from Palanisamy Nagar in Pooluvapatti, spotted the tortoise on the road in his neighbourhood.

He immediately rescued the turtle and took it home out of fear that it may be run over by vehicles.

On receiving information, a forest department team reached the house of Sivanandam and examined the tortoise.

It was then taken over to be released into the forest area. The officials are probing how the tortoise landed in the thickly populated area.
