Release of Godman temporarily suspended

A day after the cybercrime branch booked a case against the producer of the Tamil web series Godman, Zee5 the OTT platform, has temporarily suspended its premiere.

The show, which was scheduled to stream from June 12, revolves around Ayyanar (played by Daniel Balaji), a low-life criminal and womaniser, who is brainwashed and transformed into becoming a godman.

On Tuesday, Zee5 in an official statement, said, “Based on the feedback received with reference to our Tamil fiction show Godman, we have decided to suspend the release of this show at this moment. The producers of the show, Zee5 had no intent whatsoever of offending or hurting any community, religious or personal beliefs or sentiments.”

The web series is directed by Babu Yogeshwaran, who earlier helmed Jayam Ravi’s Daas and is currently directing Vijay Antony’s Tamizharasan. It is produced by Ilango Raghupathy.
