Using the hashtag #TraditionallySubmissive, tens of thousands of Muslim women of all ages tweeted their professional and educational achievements, many alongside photos of themselves, in a sharp rebuke of the British leader’s remarks. The hashtag highlighted examples of Muslim women’s independence and their lack of submissiveness.  Twitter user Mamana Beelah wrote, “@David Cameron, I speak 4 languages, how many do you speak? #traditionallysubmissive.” The social media campaign has even been supported by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who has been retweeting many of the pictures.
