Woman, mother-in-law killed in Salem mishap

SALEM: An elderly woman and her daughter-in-law were killed after a goods vehicle lost control and rammed into people waiting at a bus stop near Karipatti in Salem district on Tuesday.

Four others sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment. The deceased were identified as Gayathri (30) and her mother-in-law, Chinnapillai (60), residents of Karumapuram in the Nangavalli circle.

The accident occurred at Pathangal Medu bus stop as they were waiting to board a bus to Salem New Bus Stand. Gayathri suffered severe injuries and died on the spot.

Chinnapillai and four others — goods vehicle driver Arulkumar, Semman of M Perumapalayam, Vignesh and Ramanathan — were rushed to Salem GH and nearby private hospitals.

Chinnapillai died on the way to the hospital.
