Vikravandi seat vacant: Speaker

Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal on Monday notified the Vikravandi Assembly constituency in Villupuram district, as vacant.

The notification has been issued as DMK MLA K Radhamani representing the segment passed away a couple of days ago. The notification by Speaker was published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette. According to the Gazette, “A vacancy has occurred among the members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly consequent on the demise of Radhamani, a member elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Vikravandi constituency”.


Radhamani passed away due to prolonged illness on June 14 and following his death the vacancy in State assembly rose to two, both being in DMK alliance, and the other being Kanniyakumari MP, H Vasantha Kumar, who resigned as Nanguneri MLA after he was elected to the Lok Sabha in the April 18 poll.


Radhamani was the sixth MLA to die in the present assembly tenure. The others are former DMK supremo M Karunanidhi (Tiruvarur) and former chief minister and AIADMK general secretary, J Jayalalithaa (RK Nagar).
