TIRUCHY: TVK chief Vijay on Thursday stopped his convoy to assist a woman supporter who had fallen from a two-wheeler while following his vehicle, and ensured she was rushed to the hospital.

The incident occurred near the Melapudur underpass when the woman, riding pillion and recording videos on her mobile, fell after the bike skidded. Her husband, who was riding the vehicle, reportedly lost control.

Noticing the fall, Vijay immediately got down from his vehicle, pacified the injured supporter and instructed aides to shift her to a nearby hospital. She is said to have suffered injuries to her leg. Vijay resumed his journey to the Returning Officer’s office after ensuring she received assistance.

The episode comes despite repeated appeals by Vijay asking supporters not to chase his convoy for safety reasons. Police too had been attempting to restrain cadres from following his vehicle during the Tiruchy campaign.

The risks associated with such incidents were underscored recently when a college student from Tiruchy, who had followed Vijay’s vehicle during a previous visit to Thanjavur, died after sustaining injuries in an accident.
