CHENNAI: A viral video of an employee of Tindivanam municipality, belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, falling at a DMK councillor's feet has caused a major stir among the public.

The incident that took place at the Tindivanam Municipal Office in Villupuram has drawn flak from social activists.

The incident occurred on August 29, when S Muniyappan, a junior assistant, was asked to bring an old file from 2021. As he took time to trace it, he was allegedly abused by Ramya and her husband.

He was summoned to the municipal commissioner's room following a complaint by DMK councillor Ramya Raja regarding the old file. He was then taken to the Commissioner's chamber, where, in the absence of the Commissioner, he was further humiliated and compelled to apologise before being made to fall at Ramya's feet, despite having committed no mistake.

A video in connection with this incident, which is currently doing the rounds on social media, has drawn social activists’ criticism, and they have demanded action against the council members involved in the incident.

Following his complaint, the police registered a case under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the councillor, her husband, and the officials concerned.
