Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Chief Vaiko in his communique asked why did the Tamil Nadu government not press its riparian counterpart on Cauvery water issue.

In his statement he pointed out Irrigation Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar's defiance to the Cauvery management board's recommendation to release 9.19 tmc feet water.

DK Shivakumar had earlier gave an indirect no to water release citing the internal drinking & agricultural needs and dearth of water in KRS dam.

Vaiko questioned the Edappadi Palanisamy government didn't use its clout in getting the 19.5 tmc water from Karnataka from the period of December to May. He urged the government to take efforts to safeguard farmers and their Kuruvai crops.
