CHENNAI: Two men have been arrested near Gummidipoondi in the Thiruvallur district on Monday for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 50-year-old woman.

The duo were treated to mob justice after the woman raised an alarm. SIPCOT police who reached the scene on information arrested the duo- Anil Kumar (27) and Kolkalekar (52).

Both of them hail from Odisha and work at a private steel mill in the Thiruvallur district, police investigations revealed. Their accomplice is on the run, police said.

On Monday, the victim was grazing her goats at Pathapalayam near Gummidipoondi when the trio caught hold of her and tried to sexually assault her.

The woman managed to escape from their clutches and raised an alarm after which public came to her aid.

Police said that the duo were in an inebriated state. They were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
