The system is likely to move north-northwestwards and intensify further.

Separately, an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the North Tamil Nadu coast now lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast, the RMC said. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region within the next 24 hours.

The RMC also said a trough extends from the circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast to north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
