CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai on Sunday alleged that the CBI inquiry into the Karur tragedy that killed 41 participants at a rally addressed by TVK chief actor Vijay is fast turning into a witch-hunt of the BJP-led Centre.

BJP is exerting control over TVK through the central agency, he alleged. He mocked TVK chief Vijay for "putting his head in the lion's mouth" by seeking a central probe, suspecting the Tamil Nadu police's motive.

Addressing the media after the Samathuva Pongal festival celebrations at Sathyamoorthy Bhavan on Monday, Selvaperunthagai responded to State Minister I Periyasamy's 'no coalition government' remark, saying that DMK president MK Stalin alone can take a call on the issue.

The TNCC chief also announced that the Congress party will hold an election preparation meeting on January 18. Replying to criticism against the Congress party in the film Parasakthi over the anti-Hindi imposition agitation, Selvaperunthagai said every political party has its own past.
