CHENNAI: A 36-year-old transgender person was found dead inside a makeshift tenement off the Vanagaram service road on Saturday. Preliminary investigations have suggested that the victim was murdered.

The deceased was identified as Pandi alias Shilpa (36) of Chettiyar Agaram near Madhuravoyal. Probe revealed that the deceased used to solicit and frequent the Vanagaram service road often.

Police said that she was on the service road on Friday night, too. On Saturday morning, locals found Shilpa lying in a pool of blood in the makeshift shed and alerted the police. Police moved her to a hospital where she was declared dead. Her body was sent to the Government Kilpauk Medical College hospital for post-mortem.

The injuries on her body suggest that she was attacked. Vanagaram Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage in the neighbourhood to ascertain the identity of the suspects involved.
