Earlier, Alagiri was scheduled to lead the protest planned by the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress at Bodi Vilakku and to stage a tractor rally subsequently. However, the intervention of local police foiled the attempts of the cadre, who were already denied permission for any such protest. Hence, the agitated cadre decided to stage a procession from PC Patti to Theni to garland the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru. But, PC Patti police arrested them, sources said. Talking to reporters, Alagiri said it was unjust and unfair that the Theni District police denied the basic rights of farmers, who wished to express their concerns against the Farm Bills, and prevented the farmers from taking their tractors to join the protest.
