TN wins Centre’s award for implementing PMAY

Further construction of 93,097 tenements are in progress under AHP component and construction of 1,04,071 houses in progress under beneficiary-led construction. Efforts are being taken to complete the remaining 65,225 units before March 2023.

CHENNAI: The State Housing Department has been selected for a Union government award for better performance in implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.

According to a Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) release, Tamil Nadu has secured third position under “Best Performing State'' category. Apart from this, the State won special recognition for Faster Mover under ARHCs (Affordable Rental Housing Complexes) Model-2 and Innovative Construction Technologies.

Meanwhile, Madurai Corporation won third position under Best Performing Municipal Corporation in the city-level category. Periya Negamam Town Panchayat won fifth position under Best Performing Nagar Panchayat under PMAY (U). The awards are proposed to be presented in “Indian Urban Housing Conclave” being organised in Rajkot, Gujarat between October 19 to October 21 and the Prime Minister of India will present the awards on October 19.

The release added that the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) has so far given approval for 5,60,373 units under PMAY (Urban). "Till now 33,651 houses in 79 schemes have been completed under Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) including the Light House Project and 2,64,329 houses completed under beneficiary-led construction."
