CHENNAI: With the monsoon predicted by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) from October 15 to 17, the School Education Department has released a set of precautions to all school managements and primary education officers.

As per the notification from the education department, during last year's rain, the important registers and electronic equipment in some schools and offices were damaged.

"In order to avoid this as a precaution all the district primary education officers are requested to instruct all the school principals to keep the important records, electronic items, and other important items in the school and offices on the first floor or in a safe place instead of on the ground floor," read the department press note.

Further, the note urged all school heads to ensure water pumps/electric motors are ready during the periods of water logging in schools due to heavy rains.

"Water accumulation on school roofs should be monitored and steps should be taken to remove it immediately and the use of weak and dilapidated buildings should be avoided completely," the note urged.

Further, the department urged to ensure water does not stagnate in school premises and importantly check all electrical connections inside the school.
