Five ADGPs — Abhay Kumar Singh, Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, Sailesh Kumar Yadav, P Thamaraikannan and Shankar Jiwal — have been appointed as special officers to monitor any untoward incidents. “We have asked all Commissioners and Superintendents of police to keep the force on alert. All vital installations, places of worship and crowded places have been brought under additional security,” JK Tripathy, DGP, told DT Next.

Adequate security has been provided at markets places, bus stands and railway stations, a senior officer said.

Police officers noted that an elaborate security plan is in place with patrolling of areas which are considered to be sensitive in nature. Patrolling on four-wheelers and two-wheelers have been increased across the state.

In Chennai, Commissioner of Police AK Viswanathan has asked his deputies to take steps to maintain order in the city. “I have asked them to make sure that order is maintained,” he told this newspaper.

The railway police have also started open line patrolling. “We are working in tandem with RPF and Revenue department after we received an order from the DGP,” said V Vanitha, Inspector General of police, Tamil Nadu Railway police.
