Tirupur DCPO suspended over death of three children in orphanage

COIMBATORE: Tirupur District Child Protection Officer T Ranjitha Priya has been placed under suspension on Tuesday for failing to take note of the poor maintenance of an orphanage in which three children died due to food poisoning on October 5. Twelve others including a security guard from Sri Vivekananda Sevalayam in Thirumuruganpoondi have recovered. Some students were taken back by their families, while others were shifted to a government home in Erode. Following this, the home was sealed. The children faced hardship during the night as the toilet was located 100 metres away from their place. With no warden in the home, the children were sheltered in a cramped room.
