Tirupattur lawyers plan indefinite strike

Protesting the absence of judicial officers in nearly eight courts, Tirupattur Bar Association members have adopted a resolution to boycott all courts in the integrated court complex indefinitely on Monday.

With more than 250 lawyers practising, issues like warrant recall, bail were affected. With no one to head, the three judicial Magistrate courts and the special sandalwood cases court have been headless for more than one and a half years, while the heads of four other courts were transferred.

Initially the Vaniyambadi Magistrate was in charge of Tirupattur courts, but the control shifted to the Vellore officers after he went on leave. “This led to unnecessary travel to Vaniyambadi and Vellore for lawyers and litigants. Since the posts were not filled, we decided to boycott indefinitely,” revealed Bar Association sources.
