Thuvakudi police arrest Kerala gang, recover 52 sovereign jewels

TIRUCHY: Tiruchy Thuvakudi police arrested a gang from Kerala which looted houses in the locality including an official at Ordnance Factory (OFT) and recovered 52 sovereigns of jewels on Tuesday.

It is said, Balachandar (45), security officer at OFT residing at Navalpattu went to visit his daughter in Namakkal a few days back.

Upon his return, he found the doors of his house were broken and the miscreants who entered the house escaped with 52 sovereign jewels and cash.

Balachandar lodged a complaint with the Navalpattu police who registered a case and commenced the investigation in which, the police secured one Gowtham alias Theja (24) from Bharathiyar street in Thuvakudi on suspicion and conducted interrogation in which he confessed the police he along with Babu alias Yesudas (39) from Walayar from Palakkad in Kerala and their associate Abinaya.

Based on the confession, the police arrested all the three and recovered 52 sovereigns of jewels and silver articles from them. Subsequently, they were produced before the court and were lodged in the prison under judicial custody.

The further investigation found that Yesudas was involved in a series of burglaries in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. More than 30 cases were pending against him across the police stations in both the states.
