The accused have been identified as Vairamurugan, his wife Sowmiya and Singam, father of Vairamurugan, sources said. The couple Vairamurugan and Sowmiya resided at Pullaneri village near Checkanurani. Sowmiya delivered a female baby on January 31 at Chellampatti Primary Health Centre.

Investigations revealed that it was the second female baby delivered by Sowmiya. But, much to the agony, the couple allegedly buried the one-month-old baby in front of the house citing that the child died of illness on February 2.

After suspicions were raised in the death of the baby, neighbours took the issue to Village Administration Officer Manthakaalai, who alerted the Checkanurani police for action. The Checkanurani police filed a case based on a complaint from the Village Administration Officer. After investigating, the police arrested those three persons.
